Device Trust & Confirmation
DocSnap uses a device trust system to protect your account. When you log in from a new device, it must be confirmed before you can access your documents.
How Device Trust Works
First Device
The first device you log into after verifying your email is automatically trusted. No additional confirmation is needed -- you're logged in immediately.
Additional Devices
When you log in from a new device (a different phone or tablet), DocSnap requires you to confirm it:
- Enter your email and password on the new device
- A confirmation email is sent to your verified email address
- The app shows a "Confirm Your Device" waiting screen
- Open the email and tap the confirmation link
- The new device is confirmed and you're automatically logged in
Why Device Trust?
Device trust adds a layer of security beyond your password. Even if someone knows your password, they can't access your account from a new device without also having access to your email inbox. This protects against:
- Stolen passwords
- Unauthorized access from unknown devices
- Account sharing without your knowledge
Confirming from Any Browser
The confirmation email link works from any device or browser -- you don't need to open it on the new device. For example:
- You can confirm a new iPad by tapping the link on your iPhone
- You can confirm from a laptop or desktop browser
- The DocSnap app on the new device polls automatically and will detect the confirmation
Device Identity
Each device is identified by a unique ID that's:
- Generated automatically when you first log in
- Stored securely in the device's Keychain
- Persistent across app reinstalls (tied to the device, not the app)
This means:
- Reinstalling DocSnap on the same device won't require re-confirmation
- Logging in on a different device will always require confirmation (unless previously confirmed)
Managing Devices
Currently, device trust is managed automatically. Once a device is confirmed, it remains trusted until your account settings are changed.
