Importing Documents from Files
In addition to taking photos, you can import existing documents from your device's Files app, iCloud Drive, or other connected storage providers.
How to Import a File
- Open DocSnap and tap the Capture tab
- Tap Choose File
- Navigate to the file you want to import using the system file picker
- Select the document (JPEG, PNG, or PDF)
- Add a descriptive title (optional but recommended)
- Tap Upload to send the document for OCR processing
Supported Sources
The file picker provides access to any storage location available on your device:
- On My iPhone/iPad -- locally stored files
- iCloud Drive -- documents synced via iCloud
- Third-party providers -- Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and other apps that integrate with the iOS Files system
Use Cases
Importing from files is ideal when:
- Documents were emailed to you as attachments
- You received documents via a messaging app
- Documents are stored in cloud storage (iCloud, Dropbox, etc.)
- You have existing scans from another scanning app
- You need to upload a PDF document
File Size Limit
The maximum file size for upload is 25 MB. Most document photos and PDFs fall well within this limit. If your file exceeds this size, try:
- Reducing the image resolution
- Compressing the PDF
- Splitting multi-page PDFs into individual pages
After Import
The import and processing flow is identical to the camera capture flow. Your document will be queued for OCR processing and results will appear within a few seconds.
